Dongling jade, scientific name: sand gold stone, also known as ocean stone or Dongling stone, is geologically referred to as chromite bearing mica quartzite.
It is distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Beijing, and Xinjiang in China, with the largest mineral reserves in India and Brazil, hence it is also known as “Indian jade”. Its contents usually include microcrystals, pyrite, etc.
Dongling stone comes in two types: green and red. Most of them are opaque, with occasional semi transparent parts, and their hardness is similar to that of crystal. The green Dongling stone was once known as Indian jade, and its chemical composition is mainly silica, belonging to quartzite. The green Dongling stone has an uneven oil green background with bright dots on top. Its density is lower than that of jadeite, and its price is far inferior to high-quality jadeite. It is a type of quartzite with sand gold effect, and its color varies depending on the impurities and minerals it contains.
Dongling jade is a type of quartz ore produced in Aksu, Xinjiang. Like Huanglong jade, it is chemically composed of silicon oxide and has no fixed shape. It usually comes in colors such as green, yellow, pink, red, white, and blue, with green being the most common and emerald green being the top grade.
